Investigations into possible alternative decontamination methods for
Salmonella enteritidis on the surface of table eggs.
Department of Bacterial Diseases, Veterinary
Laboratories Agency--Weybridge, New Haw, Addlestone, Surrey, UK.
Investigations into various alternative techniques for
decontamination of the surfaces of artificially contaminated shell eggs
were carried out. Ionized air, exposure to ozone in a dry atmosphere and
use of a commercial herbal antibacterial product were not effective.
Application of ozone in a humid environment was only partially effective
but a commercial ionized water anolyte was highly effective in
eliminating Salmonella from egg surfaces.
